Teak Deck and New Coachtop 17 meter schooner 2015/2016
Bodrum Yacht Services has been contracted to replace the teak side and fore deck areas on a traditional 35 year old 18m wooden schooner
.he teak deck was laid over the original oak deck in 2000 and was therefore up for replacement as additional to it wearing thin there were areas where water was leaking to inside a couple of the cabins.
The owners also wanted Bodrum Yacht Services to strip the polyester coating from the coach top and inspect this with a view to replacing some of the wood .First job was to have a complete cover made for the boat so work could progress unhindered by the weather. As a free unframed cover it will also last to enclose the boat for many winters to come. While the cover was being fabricated the team set to work to remove all the fore deck hardware, bowsprit and seating area. This completed the teak decking was then removed to expose the original oak deck. This was found to have many areas of rot so it to was also removed. Fortunately except for a couple of places the rot had not extended to the beams, so caught just in time. Two cross beams in the fore deck area were replaced due to the excess number of nail and screw holes and an additional longitudinal beam was installed to beef up the area under the hydraulic anchor winch.

Sea Eagle
1995 Oyster 62 - Winter 2012
Originally slated for a new teak deck, Sea Eagle’s list of work grew over the winter months to include the fabrication and fitting of fore and aft black water tanks, interior carpentry work with the addition of under settee storage units, new paintwork in the heads, and a full electric and electronic maintenance. The mast and all deck hardware required removal. The original deck had been fixed with epoxy so lifting it from the fibre glass base was a tedious job trying not to damage the base. Repair work was necessary to both foredeck and lazarette hatches. From drawings and photos, the Burmese teak was first pre milled and then hand finished and fitted individually by our team of craftsmen. Sika was used as the bonding agent and seam filler. All the winches were serviced before re-fitting and all stainless polished. A complete rigging check pre mast re-fitting was performed as the owner wished to do another trans- Atlantic crossing at some stage. The whole boat received a cut and polish which had her looking like a new yacht.
Trismic
2010 Lagoon 450 – Winter 2012
This relatively new, custom private yacht required repair and modifications to the dinghy davits, and some additional stainless steel railings were fabricated and fitted. A new sail bag was redesigned and made along with a full awning for the forward deck area. Mechanically the port side cone clutch needed replacement. Full service of both engines and gear boxes was completed. Fibre glass repairs to damaged areas were also carried out and a full cut and polish to the hull plus anti fouling before launching.
18 Metre Sailing Gulet
Winter 2011-12
As an ongoing annual project this 32 year classic Bodrum gulet required the replacement of some of its paranpet timbers (the varnished timber above the traditional rubbing strake around the hull) and the raised rear deck area. As usual more planks than at first thought needed replacement so it was decided to completely renew the complete paranpet. A thorough inspection of the exposed frames revealed all were in perfect condition. The rear raised deck area was completely removed and new beams laminated and covered in teak with large removable hatches fitted to allow access to the storage areas. New rear wood railings were also fitted. Interior wise, new black and grey water tanks were fabricated and fitted along with all new water and electrical systems. New electronics including radar and wind speed indicator were also installed.
Dreamtime
1985 German Frers 20m Sloop – Winter 2009
This beautiful Australian built epoxy/mahogany laminate yacht, after many circumnavigations and several years in the Med required a complete repaint plus some repairs to the keel, skeg and rudder. There were some areas of rot in the hull below the toe rails that needed replacement. After the necessary repairs were completed the hull was completely sanded back and refinished in a complete Awlgrip system. A full survey of all electrical and mechanical systems revealed some needed replacement and the generator required a complete over haul. All work was completed in time for the owners annual sailing holiday and a number of successful charters the following season.
